Girl, the saga of self-care for my sensitive behind skin has been a rollercoaster!

Picture me, lost in the labyrinth of makeup aisles, trying to find not just the right color but products that won't turn my face into a hot mess. Mornings were like a surprise party—except it wasn't confetti; it was swollen eyes, bumps, and skin that felt like an itch factory!

I thought I was paying for my wild nights with "Toxic Tony," but turns out, it was that cheap, mean makeup turning me into a sad porcupine. Had to say bye to both Tony and those not-so-glamorous products!

But guess what? At this big age, I've finally found makeup that's like a spa day for my face—clean, vegan, and much friendlier to my skin. Before we dive into the glam, let's talk about why choosing vegan, organic, or toxic-free makeup is like sending your skin on a luxury vacation:

WHY USE VEGAN MAKEUP & IT'S BENEFITS

Over the past few years, the beauty industry has witnessed a remarkable surge in the popularity of vegan makeup, marking a substantial shift in consumer preferences. What's fascinating is that this isn't merely a passing trend; it's a movement gaining momentum by the day. More and more individuals are consciously opting for vegan and toxin-free cosmetics, drawn in by the array of benefits they offer. Vegan makeup isn't just a label; it signifies products completely devoid of any animal-derived ingredients and proudly free from any form of animal testing.

The shift towards vegan makeup isn't just about personal preference; it's a broader statement embracing cruelty-free practices and environmental sustainability. It's a transformation in the beauty landscape, promoting compassion for animals and reducing our ecological footprint while looking and feeling good. Choosing vegan makeup isn't merely about cosmetics; it's a conscious lifestyle commitment to ethical and eco-conscious beauty practices.

Health-Conscious:
Vegan makeup is made using ingredients from plants and doesn't have any harmful substances like parabens, sulfates, and phthalates that are usually found in regular makeup. These chemicals can cause skin problems and other health issues. Using vegan cosmetics reduces the amount of harmful substances that your skin is exposed to and is a healthier choice for your beauty routine.

Cruelty-Free:
Choosing vegan makeup is a great choice because it doesn't involve testing on animals. Traditional cosmetics often harm and cause suffering to animals, but vegan makeup doesn't. Actively going greener is more animal safe.

Environmentally Friendly:
Using vegan makeup not only improves personal health, but also helps protect the environment. The ingredients in non-vegan makeup often come from animal farming, which leads to deforestation and increased greenhouse gas emissions. Which can actively decrease their impact on the environment and support sustainability.

Allergen-Free:
Vegan makeup is a great option for people with sensitive skin like myself or allergies. It can make a huge difference in their makeup routine. Some common makeup ingredients like lanolin, shellac, and carmine can cause allergic reactions. By avoiding those potential allergens, makes it a safer choice for my sensitive skin baddies.

So let’s get into my favorite Vegan Makeup Products:

Rare Beauty

Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer

Free of Sulfates | Parabens | Formaldehydes | Phthalates | Mineral oil

Selena Gomez did her thing when she curated this fabulous concealer. Not only do they have a wide range of hue diversity for my chocolate deluxe tones, but it goes on smooth without all the crazy toxins bubbling up under these heavy eye bags.

100% Pure

Fruit Pigmented® Ultra Lengthening Mascara

Natural & Free: Coal Tar | Teflon | Parabens | Formaldehydes | Phthalates

Ooh chile! If I had a dollar for every-time I said my eye were itching after applying mascara, I would be filthy rich. When I found this vegan brand I was finally happy & free from the struggle of toxic mascaras.

Milk Makeup

Hydro Grip Dewy Long-Lasting Setting Sprayr

Free: Sulfates | Gluten | Parabens | Formaldehydes | Phthalates

Last year, after I found out how super sensitive I was to gluten, I had to go on my journey of finding everything that didn’t contain lots of wheat derived chemcials and Milk Makeup was the first brand I saw and fell in love with. Now this plant based baddie can finally set this face without the aftermath of a itchy break-out.

LYS Beauty

No Limits Matte Bronzer

Free: Gluten | Parabens | Formaldehydes | Phthalates

Black owned and vegan. Sign me up! Now granted I’m not much of a contour girl, but I do love to use this setting powder as a natural eyeshadow look.

Tower 28 Beauty

ShineOn Lip Jelly Non-Sticky Gloss

Free: Gluten | Parabens | Formaldehydes | Phthalates

Growing up I could never wear lip gloss because my lips would be on sticky glossy fire. Now yes, I was buying the cheap dollar tree brands, but even when I did try the popular and luxury “it girl” looks. My lips were still disagreeing. Luckily, in 2024 we have Tower 28 to grace our kissers with some healthy shine during glam time.

Rose Inc

Satin Lip Color Refillable Hydrating Lipstick

Free: Gluten | Parabens | Formaldehydes | Phthalates

This vegan lipstick range boasts a stunning array of shades crafted with cruelty-free ingredients, delivering rich pigmentation and a nourishing formula for luscious, gluten-free lips.

Here are some other brands where women can find vegan makeup, ensuring products are cruelty-free and examining ingredient lists for animal-derived components: Urban Decay, Too Faced, Tarte Cosmetics, and ColourPop.

Choosing vegan makeup is not just about adhering to a certain lifestyle or dietary choice; it encompasses a multitude of benefits. From cruelty-free practices and improved personal health to supporting environmental sustainability and advancing product innovation, vegan makeup offers a holistic approach to beauty. Important to remember just because something is vegan or organic does not always mean it is perfectly free from other toxins, like pfas or other harmful chemicals that can be considered plant-derived. So please be mindful.

By making the switch, individuals can empower themselves to make conscious choices that align with their values and contribute to a better world.
