As women, taking care of our feminine health is key to having a healthy body and overall well-being. With various feminine reproductive ailments on the rise today, it is important to know some basic signs to an wonky pH balance. Which in the long-run can be beneficial to preventing diseases, infertility, and other major occurrences towards our yoni.
A healthy feminine pH is researched to be around 3.8-4.5 on a pH measuring scale, making it a naturally acidic environment.
This is the same as tomato juice and even beer. Shocking, I know!!!
Which is why the inner lining of our underwear can become discolored over-time due to the releasing of our natural acidic juices.
So I know you’re wondering What Is A pH and Why Is It Important? I got you sis!
A pH is a scientific term that means “potential hydrogen” that measures how many hydrogen molecules are in a solution and their possible pairing to oxygen. Whew! That’s enough science and using my Biology degree, but basically this states how either a liquid is an acid or an alkaline. Yes, you heard of an alkaline diet right, very similar. Acidic solutions range from 1-6 and alkaline solutions are from 8-14 on a pH scale with 7 being neutral, i.e. pure water.
Now why is this important to our vaginal health! If your pH falls below or rises above the 3.8-4.5 range this can be a sign that something is not balanced down there. This can occur due to various reasons, like, bacterial vaginosis, yeast infection, bad diet, and other ailments.
So let’s get into some key Signs Of A Wonky pH Balance
FOUL ODOR
Oouuu Siisss! I’ve been here before on numerous occasions. Whether it came from using harmful menstruation products, soaps, or being with “Mr. Dirty D**k Darnell” who kept giving me bacterial vaginosis (B.V.), which is very common, but it was the worst feeling and seriously lowered my self-esteem.
Having a bad smell coming from your lady parts can be a big indicator that your pH is off. No it is not natural for us to smell fishy, nor using them little wet wipes is going to remove the real underlying reason. That's just surface level.
ABNORMAL DISCHARGE
Paying attention to your discharge is top cookie! Every-time I use the bathroom I’m looking at my panties and smelling just in case Candance is acting up down there. A healthy discharge color is said to be from a clear to slightly whitish hue with a nice liquidly texture. Anything that shows up of a different color or texture can sound some alarms to an unbalanced pH. Here’s a guideline to observing abnormal discharge color and possible reasons:
Gray- Bacterial Vaginosis
Red/Brown- Irregular Menstruation, Cervical Infection
Thick White Cheesy- Yeast Infection
Yellow/Green- Trichomoniasis, STD
Disclaimer: Go see your doctor if any of these symptoms are present for I am not a physician.
IRRITATION
Constant irritation can be another indicator that your pum pum pH is showing out. Some common signs to look for are; burning/hot sensations, itchiness, redness, and even swelling. These are all major signs to address when observing your yoni. Whether it can be a simple allergic reaction or something more harmful, it is important to visit your doctor to get a full diagnosis, especially if it persists.
Here are some ways to how your pH can become wonky and unbalanced pH
Reasons To A Wonky pH Balance:
BAD HYGIENE
Having bad vaginal hygiene is a No No to keeping a fresh and healthy feminine reproductive area. Knowing how to properly care for yoni sis can eliminate a lot of simple issues. Washing your hands before and after touching your sensitive areas is one and the rest are listed below.
Wash your happy “toys” before and after use.
Always wear clean and dry underwear.
Change your menstrual care products in a timely manner.
Douching can actually cause more harm than good.
TOXIC PRODUCTS
Using natural/organic feminine-care products is so important to keeping a nice clean balanced pum pum. There are many popular companies that utilize harmful chemicals in their menstrual products that can cause issues like, toxic shock syndrome, cancer, endocrine disruption, and even dryness.
Some of these toxins can be; formaldehyde-releasing preservatives, parabens, bisphenols, phthalates, dioxins, and the list goes on, but most period care companies do not disclose their product ingredients.
So here is a good tip while choosing the best feminine-care products.
If it does not say natural/organic, 100% cotton, vegan, or give you the ingredients DO NOT put towards your most sensitive area!

INTIMATE PARTNERS
I can not preach this enough. Yes! Your partners can cause a disruption in your feminine pH system. Just as much as your hygiene, energy, and diet is fundamental to your feminine health, your partner's vibration is too. It can literally be from them simply not washing their hands before y’all sensual moments, or even having some bad eating habits.
“Dirty D**k Darnell” is not giving us B.V. again because he can’t wash his behind after playing basketball all day with the boys! period.
Alright Sis! You have my blueprint to a healthier balanced Feminine pH! Share this amongst your sisters so we can all be mindful of our vaginal health-care needs.
