So the infamous Aunt Flo has come to visit and stay for a few days, but this time she has a heavy message to deliver.
“Girl!!! I’m about to turn up in here!!!”
Ugh! I know the feeling. One minute you’re relaxing and enjoying your day, then suddenly. Ouch! My uterus is doing somersaults. I need to lay down. Not again!!!
Having a painful menstruation is quite popular, but it is the least normal for any feminine body. When we experience any type of discomfort or physical abnormality. Our bodies are trying to tell us that something is out of balance and we need to listen.
Menstruation is a natural phenomenon that happens once a month for most women. It is a process when the uterine lining of the womb sheds its tissue when no pregnancy has occurred. This can become a painful experience due to the fact of not producing the right balanced amount of hormones, like progesterone or estrogen.
Many distressing things can occur along with menstrual cramp pains, like, the passing of blood clots, mood swings, lower back pains, fatigue, and so much more.
During these times many women are either left to take harmful medications or suffer through pains of this highly sacred divine time. Which means she is not able to enjoy the fruits of this beautiful energetic moment. But with a simple understanding of our womb traumas, we can begin to make changes to creating a happier menstruation.
Below are my top five mindful exercises I discovered that helped ease the blows of PMS and created an easier Aunt Flo.
1. RELEASE THE TENSION
A lot of times we as women do not realize that we are tensing our bodies in such a way that it is causing discomfort. Especially in our lower extremities. When a menstrual cramp arises the uterus is literally contracting and releasing its muscular tissues.
At this moment we must simply relax our bodies and allow the pain to ease its way through. I know that sounds crazy, but try it.
This can be done by are either lying down or sitting up straight. When a cramp occurs, naturally address how your body reacts to this event and do the exact opposite.
RELAX!!! Tensing is only going to cause more pain in the long-run.
EXERCISE:
As you inhale, imagine a relaxing peaceful energy is expanding throughout your womb space and relaxing the tension of your cervix contracting.
As you exhale, imagine the pain releasing from your womb and the cramp is easing up, and it is no more. Repeat this breathing technique as much as possible.
2. SPEAK POSITIVELY
Yes, positive affirmations to your womb can do wonders in how she reacts to her imbalances. Speaking negatively about the natural processes of your body is only going to cause more negative outputs. This is a simply, but powerful mental exercise that creates change in how you view your womb & feminine nature.
EXERCISE:
In times of affliction. Remove all negative thoughts and speak directly to your womb. Tell her she is worthy, loved, peaceful… Whatever you have to say to change your energetic expressions.
Create your positive womb affirmations!
3. DEEP BREATHING INTO THE WOMB
Deep breathing is a popular yogic tradition that has been known to produce miraculous changes in the well-being of others. When we breathe deeply our bodies naturally begin to release muscular tension and our life-force energy start to flow more efficiently.
EXERCISE:
Inhale slowly and deeply through the nostrils while filling your lungs, then exhale with your mouth close out through your nose.
4. FLOW...FLOW...FLOW...
Flowing along with the energy of menstrual blood can help create a more balanced and smoother discharge. At times, we subconsciously are fighting against the essential flow of our menstruation. In these un-intuitive moments we are building an energetic back-flow towards ourselves. Which can and will only produce more pain and uneasiness.
EXERCISE:
Imagine with your eyes closed the vital energy of your menstruation is flowing downwardly towards legs, out your womb, and down into the earth. Constantly, keep this thought of a downward flow throughout your bleeding session.
5. WOMB MASSAGE
We all know the benefits of receiving a back or foot massage, but do we know that massaging our lower bellies can help relief menstrual cramps. This quick and easy exercise can help remove the tension in the uterus and create a calmer flow.
EXERCISE:
Place your hands on your lower belly and begin to deeply massage where your bladder lies on top of your uterus. Find the spots that are most painful and gently glide your fingertips across these areas.
These top five exercises can all be done simultaneously while during a menstrual cramp episode to help ease the pain.
AUNT FLOW MEDITATION:
· Begin by deeply massaging your lower belly and speaking positive womb affirmations into your womb space.
· Close your eyes and inhale in through your nose.
· As you are exhaling imagine the energy of menstruation is moving down your legs, and out your feet.
· Feel the release of tension from your lower extremities exiting out your feet.
· Continue with these exercises in mind for the next few days.
BONUS:
Yes, you already knew I was going to touch on this subject. DIET!!!
Eating healthy is the most important part of creating an easier and happier menstrual flow. When we provide our bodies with the right amount nutrients. We give ourselves full freedom to express the divine feminine in her sacred form without any oppositions.
Here are some top foods & herbs to consider taking while experiencing menstrual pains.
· Ginger
· Turmeric
· Foods high in Vitamin C, Calcium, and Magnesium, like oranges, kale, sweet potatoes, & chia seeds.
· Drink plenty of water
· Peppermint, Crampbark or Ginkgo biloba tea
I hope this article has given you another way to having a more beautiful intimate relationship with your womb during her lunar releasing stage.
